Sweet dogs, polo ponies, champagne, and caviar on a chilly Saturday. What could be better? This weekend we were thrilled to attend the Houston Polo Club‘s 2018 Women’s Polo Championship Tournament.
We joined Houston Polo Club members, presenting sponsors David Yurman and Land Rover Houston Central and other vendors like Kentaur caviar, Chopard fine jewelry, Stick and Ball luxury clothing and many others to cheer on some of the best horsewomen around as they battled for the top spot.
Four teams played in this year’s three-day tournament. We loved watching the women polo players on their magnificent ponies playing the sport of queens. (LGG named it that after an earlier post encouraging women to take up the sport through polo clinics at the Houston Polo Club.)
Unfortunately too much rain made it dangerous to play the finals at The Houston Polo Club. When the ground gets too wet, horse hooves can get stuck, making it dangerous for the animals, so the finals were played in an arena in Brookshire. The arena made it that much more exciting to watch because of the relatively small area. (One football field length versus the usual outdoor five football fields size).
Congratulations to Rockin P, 2018 USPA U.S. Open Women’s Polo Championship winners!
As usual, we were warmly welcomed and felt right at home among the animal-loving female players, surrounded as they were by their horses, strong female camaraderie and charming free roaming sweet dogs. We are so sold on the sport we have already planned to take the polo clinic in the spring. We encourage you to do it too!
