Keep it Cool This Summer With Top Fashion Trends

With every change of season, I contemplate adding a few pieces to my wardrobe to stay on trend, but what are the trends?  What’s appropriate for the 40 plus age range?  Well, we went straight to an expert 20-year fashion veteran to find out. Meet Rebecca Matthews, personal shopper and merchandiser at Pretty Please, a locally owned Memorial boutique.

Rebecca recommends these looks for Spring:

Lace. You can do this in small bits or make a total outfit.  Lace tops are great for layering with a jacket or on their own.  You can find the lace in many colors.  If you do a dress, make sure the length works – hemming will cost a pretty penny.

Animal print. This trend is still hot for summer.  Go for the lighter colors.  If it’s too dark – it can look too much like a fall piece.

Tie front tops. These are everywhere in many shapes and sizes.  The trick is to make sure that the tie is in the right place – not adding too much bulk to your tummy section, or bringing the shirt up too high to show skin.  This is fine for the young ones – but for those of you over 35 – think twice about it being appropriate.

Tie front bottoms. Ties don’t just work on top – they work on the bottom too. Just be sure to pair them with tighter tops that give you shape.

Straw and Rattan bags. These come in all shapes and sizes and can add a lot of fun to your summer wardrobe.  Always be careful with these bags – like where you put it down – the straw or rattan can get pulled. Also, the bag can pull the fabric of your clothes.
