Allow us to introduce a new guest contributor to our blog, Helga Stein. She will be writing periodic posts for us on her favorite topic- the best cocktails and bar bites in town.
Helga’s background in the hospitality industry includes working as a hostess at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and Cafe Annie and working in the food and beverage industry at Sugar Creek Country Club. But what she really brings to the table, (I mean, bar) is the fact that she goes out and samples Houston’s watering holes more often than ANYONE I have ever met. Helga’s expertise isn’t an offshoot of a barfly “I’m worried about you- are you sure things are fine at home?” kind of way. Sure she is single- but Helga is legit, she knows Houston’s liquor distributors, bar owners and best mixologists and is going to be giving us her recommendations for the trending seasonal cocktails, must-visit bars with the premier ambiance, food, and libations perfect for brunching, happy houring, being seen and just chilling out with friends or on a date. Today’s post is about Eunice and their Sunday brunch.
Let’s day drink!
Eunice is a Cajun-Creole style restaurant with European and Gulf Coast flare. It features a full raw bar with Blue Crab, oysters and Red Shrimp as well as roasted seafood and New Orleans’ favorites such as gumbo and stuffed oysters. The menu isn’t limited to only seafood, however, and presents beautifully for any palette.
The specialty drink menu and small plates definitely inspire a prime brunch spot and happy hour venue. Keeping on trend for fall, featured above are some specialty cocktails most of which are bourbon based. Eunice’s mixologist made a delectable cocktail with banana-infused bourbon, cinnamon simple syrup and some secret ingredients resulting in a Banana Foster’s in a glass. It’s truly worth the euphoric calories. Of course, no Houston restaurant would be complete without a specialty Gin and Tonic cocktail as shown above with an aromatic bouquet of juniper berries and some citrus peels to be enjoyed year-round.
The oyster shooter deserves honorable mention as it’s perfect for the beginning, middle or end of the meal. It not only cleanses the palette, but compliments the entire concept of this southern-styled restaurant.
Some appetizer favorites and note-worthy items include the hand-pulled burrata cheese topped with pepper jelly and caviar. This can only be rounded off with Eunice’s freshly made biscuits and of course a bourbon cocktail.
If you are like us, and saving a once-a-month hamburger for a place that deserves the calorie explosion, Eunice has you covered. For a more substantial meal, Eunice offers a mouth-watering burger (with the option of an added egg) accompanied with seasoned French fries that compliment the sweet cocktails perfectly.
More traditional breakfasts are also available on the menu, namely crab eggs Benedict, shrimp and green chili grits, pancakes and steak and eggs. A dull dish doesn’t exist on the menu at Eunice and is sure to please almost any craving.
